Each personal computer or web server is run by an Operating System - the low-level software which communicates with the hardware equipment, including peripheral devices such as a mouse and a printer, and any applications that are currently installed on the system. Any program input using a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI) is processed by sending an Application Program Interface (API) request to the OS. On a web server, every single application runs within the parameters established by the OS as well - priority, physical memory, processing time, etc. This goes for both standard website scripts and server-side software such as a media server. When a virtual server is generated on a physical one, there can be two separate Operating Systems, referred to as guest OS and host OS, which means that you can set up a different software environment on a single machine.

Multiple OS in VPS

Our virtual private server plans come with three Linux distributions that you can pick from for the Operating System of your new server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being free, the OSs are really stable and risk-free and the key reason to offer the three of them is to ensure that you can run every app that you would like, because different pieces of software have different requirements with regards to the environment they can be used on. Each one of the three OSs is backed by a huge community of web developers who have produced a large number of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to handle your web hosting content. Also, if you decide that you need another OS, we could always reinstall the server with it. As a paid upgrade, we also offer you weekly updates of the Operating System for optimum stability and security.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting

In case you decide to purchase one of our dedicated servers, you'll find three Operating Systems on the registration page as we want to give you a broader choice regarding the system environment on the machine as different apps can have specific requirements. CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian include different modules developed by their vast support communities, so you can select each of these OSs and benefit from a stable and safe web hosting service. Based on your decision, you will also have different Control Panels to choose from. Of course, we can always change the Operating System if the one you have selected at first does not meet the requirements of the software which you intend to run. We can also update the OS on a regular basis to keep it as risk-free as possible using our Managed Services upgrade package.
